Tom Wade and Mary (Mollie) River

Tom Wade

Tom Wade was born April 1861 in Texas. He had one brother, George and a sister Mollie. He was born into slavery and could read but not write. 

Mary (Mollie) River

Mollie/Mary River was born May, 1861 in Texas. She had one brother, Matthew, three sisters, Laura, Lizzie and Emma. She was born into slavery and could neither read nor write. 

On May, 20 1882, in Travis County, Texas, Tom and Mary married. Mary brought to the union a daughter, Maggie and the couple began thier family in a dirt squat (hut) on the praire, around Mano, Texas, where they raised seven boys and four girls.
